Out of the 80,000 patients with epilepsy in the greater Chicagoland area, almost one-third continue to have seizures despite medical treatment. Epilepsy is a neurological condition that from time to time produces brief disturbances in the normal electrical functions of the brain which may affect a person's consciousness, bodily movements or sensations for a short time.
In this program, Stephen Schuele, MD, director of the Northwestern University Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, discusses various types of epilepsy and seizures, how to optimize medical treatment and improve quality of life with epilepsy and the unique chance for selected patients of curing epilepsy with surgery.
